BIRDS OF PARADISE PLANT Medium

The bird of paradise (Strelitzia reginae) is a striking tropical plant native to South Africa. It is famous for its exotic flowers, which bloom from a hard, beak-like sheath (called a spathe) and feature bright orange sepals and vivid blue petals, closely resembling the head and plumage of a tropical bird.

​The plant itself is known for its large, paddle-shaped, banana-like leaves that are a glossy, deep green and grow in a dense, fan-like clump. It is a popular ornamental plant, grown outdoors in warm climates and as a dramatic, slow-growing houseplant in cooler areas.
